Is it weird that I now want some ear shaped gummy candy?

Hi! I used to read your blog religiously, loved it! I remember you mentioning a lip balm from Covergirl that was the perfect shade of chapped lips. I’m from Argentina and month later, when I traveled to the US, believe me the first place I went was Target to buy the coveted lip balm. To this day I regret not buying many more. Anyways, always ready to follow a lip balm recommendation from you.

I didn’t know about the history of the candle, but I picked one up at Trader Joe’s a few weeks ago and am definitely going back for more soon!

When can I not be lured into trying a new lip gloss/balm? Oh dear. Must try. (The Korres you recommended months ago is very nice. Thank you!)

A while ago you were mentioning going through a reading dry spell and I immediately began listing suggestions in my head... without ever sending them to you. I read a lot of contemporary British fiction so imagine that you're already familiar with those novels, but have you read any works by Tom Perrotta, Emma Straub or Laura Zigman? I found Emma Straub's "This Time Tomorrow" deeply moving. It's really a love letter to her Dad, in novel form, and I was sorry that it didn't seem to make much of a literary splash. I read Laura Zigman's first novel, which was a huge success, years ago. There followed a long dry spell (if you find you like her writing be sure to google and read interviews with her about that) and then she published two novels which I love, "Separation Anxiety" and "Small World." Both feature middle aged mothers with writing careers and each is tender and funny, while tapping into the deep bittersweetness that comes with age and experience.

Thank you for these suggestions! Have read Emma Straub and Tom Perrotta, but not Laura Zigman, so will give her a try!

I was glad to see the tomato vine candle was back on my TJ’s trip today, but I thought it smelled slightly different than the previous iteration. Then, the cashier commented on the candle and said “but we had to use a new manufacturer because of the issue with the glass jar version, and this one smells a little different” so I knew I wasn’t imagining things. When we got home, my husband took out the one remaining glass jar version we had in our cabinet, smelled them both, and told me I was nuts; they smell exactly the same. So then I did a blind smell-off in the kitchen to prove him wrong, complete with a between-candles sniff of coffee beans to cleanse my nose palate (?), and I immediately knew which was the new candle and which was the old. It’s still good, just a little more floral and a little less earthy. And if you read that whole absurd comment, you get a trophy. 😂 Also, I hate Magic Spoon too.

Wow, I had no idea there was a difference!!! I love your commitment to sniffing it out, though (pun very much intended)

As the Queen cherry tomato grower among my friends, I am mourning the loss of my perfectly located raised planters since I moved in January and have a new yard that needs lots of work. I plan to hit up Trader Joe’s this weekend to look for the tomato candle and will buy one for each of my friends in lieu of the tomatoes I gifted them all last year! 100% agree with you about Magic Spoon … I fell for the influencer marketing last year before you could buy just one box at Target. After a bowl or two I threw the whole lot out. Yuck!

Ordered lobe miracle for my nearly 19-yr-old daughter who is way to young to have damaged hers already but totally needs this, along with the lip drip, for her b'day coming up. Thanks!
